Minnesota Math and Science Academy today initially went into a shelter in place and then we went into a school lockdown around 10:45 a.m. due to an alert about a homicide suspect. The alert was lifted after about 30 minutes. In the wake of this most recent incident, I wanted to assure you that we take the safety and security of our students and staff team very seriously. We commit, through regular and ongoing training, to ensure that our school is a place where students can learn and grow, free from concerns about safety. Although there was no immediate threat at MMSA, as a precaution, the St.Paul Police Department was immediately contacted. Officers were dispatched to the school and patrolled the area near our school throughout the rest of the day.
Our student's safety is our top priority, and we will continue to inform parents any time we learn of a situation regarding student safety. It is important that we make you aware, as this matter does affect the safety of all children in our community.
